I have always been a design geek. I can’t remember a time that I wasn’t trying to put my personal stamp on my living spaces, DIY’ing something I couldn’t find or couldn’t afford to buy, and last year where we renovated a distressed property into an Airbnb. A Life Unfolding is where I share design, decor, DIY’s, and all things home.
Springtime at the Cottage: Floral Accents and Fresh Layers
Hi, Welcome to The Cottage Home Tour 2026! I am so happy you are here. Last week, we hit 60 degrees and once again fell hard for Michigan’s fickle Spring games. Today, we are having a BLIZZARD, and I’m wrapped in winter jammies with a cup of cocoa. So grab a beverage -hopefully on the patio with some sunshine- and come dream with me about lazy cottage days to come. Plus, today I have a bonus for you! Several of my favorite bloggers are sharing home tours today. I’m excited to share Springtime at the Cottage: Floral Accents and Fresh Layers.
Speaking of lazy cottage days, when we’re not tucked away in Ludington making memories, we love sharing our little slice of paradise with others. We rent the cottage through Airbnb when the family isn’t using it – you can find the listing here.
The best part of Spring at the cottage is bringing the outdoors in. My go-to for instant cheer is always flowers. Potted, freshly cut I love them all!
They instantly soften a space and make it feel loved and lived-in.
I’ve pulled together some of my favorite ways to sprinkle floral life through the rooms:
Vases of Fresh Cuts: Start simply. A small vase of fresh-cut tulips or daffodils from the garden instantly brightens any spot. It doesn’t need to be fancy—the blooms do the heavy lifting!
Floral Textiles: For a burst of color and pattern that never wilts, consider introducing floral patterned throw pillows, tablecloths, or even a lightweight cozy quilt.
Don’t Forget your Walls- Art for the Seasons:
Another way to signal a new season is to switch out the artwork. During those long Michigan winters, I tend to lean into moodier, darker pieces that make the cottage feel like a cozy burrow. But once Spring (theoretically) arrives, those come down to make room for happy florals and pretty pastels. It’s amazing how a vibrant botanical print can instantly change the energy of a room, making it feel like the garden is already in bloom.
Fresh Layers: Lightening Up for the Season
As the weather (eventually!) warms, it’s time to put away the heavy blankets and fabrics that keep us cozy through winter. Think instead, light, airy, and inviting.
Layer with Light Textiles: Swap out wool throws for breathable cotton or linen blankets. Replace heavy drapes with sheer curtains that let gentle sunlight (and a breeze) pour in.
A new favorite of mine is adding Sofa toppers in pretty prints or soft pastels. It saves the sofa from everyday accidents and adds a pretty pop of color. Win, Win!
