It’s reveal day for the Home Office Update, and I’m soooo excited! I can’t believe it’s finally here. This Home Office space was designed for my daughter and SIL, who live in the Chicago suburbs. It was a lot of fun getting to spend extra time with them while designing the room and working on a few DIY projects (they did so much work), and it made my mama heart happy! They were open to BOLD WALLPAPER and beautiful color as a bonus, and I am very excited to share how it turned out.
So here we go…
You can find the original mood board here. We changed it up quite a bit as we went along. My SIL Anthony is a CG artist and is very creative, and my daughter has a designer soul, which made this experience so much fun!
ALL the delightful deets:
PAINT and Graphic Wall
We started by painting the room Kale Green by Sherwin Williams and adding a Graphic Wall detail. We also painted the doors SW6991 Black Magic. I do love a black door.
WALLPAPER
The cactus wallpaper by Milton & King truly makes the space pop. I was thrilled they were open to such a bold pattern. I posted a tutorial on how to hang traditional pasted wallpaper here. It’s not nearly as intimidating as you may think. You can really add quite the statement wall in just an afternoon. Check it out.
DIY DESK
Anthony needs a large desk to hold two monitors as well as allow Alyssa space from the days she works from home also. They loved the warmth and feel of the butcher block countertops from our Spring One Room Challenge, so that’s what we decided on for the tops. We found the legs on Etsy and fell in love with the masculine feel. It made a beautiful desk.
COZY CORNER
Another element they needed in the space was a cozy corner for reading or keeping one another company while they worked. We added this velvet chair in a gorgeous pinky/red from Homepop.
DIY WINDOW TREATMENTS
I originally planned on bamboo blinds for the windows, but they would take too long to arrive (sigh). I took to Pinterest to find a DIY solution. I have often admired the leather headboards I have seen pinned, and when I stumbled across the image again, I knew we had our solution. I love how they turned out. I’ll write a post about them in the next few weeks.
GALLERY WALL
A Gallery wall was always a must for the room. With Anthony’s love of Art and Batman, we knew we had to be able to display some beautiful prints. Frame it Easy provided the frames for the Gallery wall and the other prints in the space. Their ordering process made it EASY to design our custom frames (they have so many varieties to choose from), and they shipped them directly to our door.
ACCESSORIZING THE ROOM
We added a wonderful plush rug from Well Woven rugs under the desk that feels delicious on bare toes when someone is getting an early start on the day. The tribal print feels neutral with all the colors and makes a statement at the same time.
SOFTGOODS
A room wouldn’t be complete for me without soft textures to round everything out. Here we added a graphic printed pillow by SWD Studio.
STORAGE
What you can’t see is the storage we added to the closet to the left of the desk. We were able to get most everything in the closet with room to spare. We added hooks and baskets to allow a quick place to toss reading material, jackets, and book bags.
No room is finished without an extra soft throw to cuddle under. This one is from Garnet Hill.
Thanks to the wonderful sponsors of my One Room Challenge project. I truly appreciate their generosity!
