Spring 2020 One Room Challenge Week 2 Floors, Countertops and Appliances
Hello!
Well, it’s week two of the One Room Challenge. Last week I laid out our ambitious plans for our renovation, which can see those here. To recap, we bought a very distressed house (sight unseen from an auction house), and we are renovating to use as a Short Term Rental (talk about our timing, right?!?!). I’ll write about the process of buying at an auction another time, but let’s just say buying sight unseen is not for the weak of heart.
So what have we completed on the spaces? The dining/living area floors were original wood, so we had them sanded and then put a clear coat of poly over them. They are still rustic, but I love them. We have finished the Butcher block countertop install and put the original sink back in. We purchased appliances and wrapped wood cladding around the bar area.
Not sure if I am going to stain or paint the bar yet.
This week we are going to work on the tile backsplash and in the entryway. We tiled our backsplash in our kitchen at the Lake House and thought we could handle it. Wish us luck! The entryway tile is going to be white penny tile with a word spelled out. This is my inspiration.
I am thinking of a few words, but it will depend on how time-consuming it is to lay it all out.

We are making progress, but it’s SLOW going right now. We have to do much more of the renovation ourselves (I’d really like to hire painting out) due to the coronavirus, but I also like using more of what we have on hand, and there is definitely pride in doing a job yourself. Some of the finishes started showing up, and that always makes me do a happy dance! Just look at this wallpaper from Spoon Flower. It’s giving me all the heart eyes!!

The original wood floors are so pretty! I’m really curious about what words you end up spelling out in the tile. What a neat idea!
During our remodels, I always want to hire the painting out, too. But since it’s what I do best, it usually ends up on my plate:)
