Hello Everyone!
I can’t believe it’s the end of August already. Don’t get me wrong, fall is my absolute favorite time of year, but our Michigan summers are spectacular, so spotting those first few changing leaves (which I did yesterday) is always a little jarring. Those first peeps of color also give me a great excuse to start focusing a bit more on transitioning the inside of my home from summer to fall.
I’m excited to share some easy ways to transition from summer to fall bookshelf decor ideas. This post is part of a challenge, so let’s get right into it!

I’m excited to be participating today in a Pinterest Challenge along with some blogging friends. This is a fun challenge where we take the same photo from Pinterest (with permission) and adapt it for our own homes. The challenge is hosted by my friend Cindy at Countyroad407.
For those of you visiting from Our Southern Home, a warm welcome! I hope you just loved Christy’s post—she is so talented. I’m excited to have you here and hope you’ll feel right at home as we dive into some easy fall decor ideas.
Our inspiration pic this month is from Michele at Vintage Home Design, and it’s absolutely beautiful. It makes my neutral-loving heart happy.
I loved the simplicity and the neutrals of Michele’s bookshelves. What inspired me the most from her image was her use of dried florals and the warm, layered look created by all the tone-on-tone neutrals.
For my summer-to-fall bookshelves, I’m bringing in neutral wood tones to warm things up. I’ve used some beautiful wood candlesticks—some found, some new—to contrast with the cooler gray background of my shelves. It’s a simple change, but that touch of natural wood instantly adds warmth and a cozy feel.
I knew I needed to bring some texture to the shelves, and what’s better than dried florals for a touch of fall? I found the most gorgeous dried bougainvillea at Terrain, and the orange color is just perfect for the season. To mix things up, I also added a few dried seed pods from Bloomist—they look so artistic and sculptural. But the piece that really makes me happy is the dried tumbleweed I placed on the top shelf. It adds so much great texture, and its warm, faded color is exactly what I was looking for.
While I love the look of all the soft beige in Michelle’s fall shelves, I think of green as a lovely neutral. And it’s a good thing, too. I always need a place for my summer plants to go this time of year, and the candlesticks are perfect plant holders for my succulents that need a winter home (or a least a temporary home until my next project! You can see some favorites here: succulent wreath, succulent pumpkins, succulent tree.
