First, let’s talk about what neutral holiday decor is. For me, it’s various tones of whites mixed with natural elements like woods and greenery with metallics mixed in for texture.
This season, I am keeping my decor simple and neutral. I am all about bringing in nature and practicing intention in my home. I remind myself that less can be more. So far, it feels soothing and perfect at this point in our life. As Empty Nesters, we’ll celebrate this Christmas at our Lake Home with company coming in and out for over two weeks. The less fuss, the better. So welcome, let’s start with the Primary Bedroom.
Do you decorate your bedroom for the holidays? I started a few years ago, and I must to say I love it. It feels cozy and romantic. I prefer to keep it simple with a soft color palette and lots of textures. I used a fluffy throw for the tree skirt and placed a basket with pillows off to the side for even more texture. The neon peace sign is especially pretty at night.
I use white bedding year-round, and it makes it easy to add holiday touches.
I love to add touches of greens and fresh flowers throughout the house. They smell wonderful and add a festive touch. I often make arrangements from grocery store flowers and place them around the house. Here is one of my favorites.
Moving into the main living space and our main tree. Which is always a live tree. My husband made the wooden tree box the first year we were married, and I can’t imagine our tree without it.
Even as I have scaled back a bit, I have to keep up with our traditions. This Angel has been on our tree for years after I dropped the 80’s Angel that lit up under her skirt that we also had for years. My girls saw this one day and said, “Mama, she looks like you.” I was never sure if it was the hair (??) or what it was, but as weird as she is….we love her. Another tradition is making our own ornaments. This is one of my favorite crafts for the holidays.
Last year, I was looking for a new way to display stockings, and I put a few on this ladder until I could figure out what I wanted to do with them. I ended up liking it so much I kept them there.
Our den serves as our TV watching, book reading, and extra sleeping space that we all congregate towards. There is not a ton of space, so I decorate in small ways.
Scented candles are my love language. This time of year, they are usually scents that remind me of baked goods. This one is Sugar Cookie.
Our dining table is small and only fits six, so we actually serve buffet-style this time of year. But when we have a smaller crowd, I love to set a more whimsical table setting, even during the holidays. I love these plates I found a few years ago at Anthropologie.
The pretty plates, some texture, and a little greenery add a bit of a whimsical feel.
Our Breakfast nook is across from our dining area, and its beautiful shelves almost make up for not having a mantle to decorate this time of year!
Even our bathrooms are decked out with small, festive touches this time of year.

Lindsay,
Thank you! I’ve had so much fun on this hop!
I enjoyed touring your home and it looks festive for Christmas. Lighting up the peace sign for Christmas is a great touch. I’m headed to our lake house this weekend and I’m looking forward to seeing some lights there.

Your plates are precious! Such a great idea to add stockings to your ladder.
Sarabeth,
Thank you, I love my little woodland plates! I wish they were still avaiable as I have broken two so am now using them as serving plates.

I enjoyed your Christmas house tour. I especially like your beautiful Christmas tree in the wooden box and your quirky, whimsical angel:)
Thank you for stopping by Carrie and for showing our Tim Burtonish Angel some love! 🙂
Your home looks lovely, as always, Libbie. I love your ladder idea for stockings… I just may steal that! And those bells are beautiful, too! Where did you get those? Pinned!
Thank you my friend! Necissity is the mother of invention (I have no mantle and that blanket ladder is always around!).
The bells are from Hearth and Hand at Target (Last year) and they are a very nice quality for the price. Not sure they have them again but I nice pick up if they do!
Merry Christmas!
I can’t even describe properly how much I love this. It’s so festive but simple and all the whimsical touches are my favourite! I just love it!
Laura this is the sweetest comment. You’ve made my day! Thank you. 🙂

Hi Libbie, I enjoyed your Christmas house tour! Your home echoes the warmth of the Christmas holidays. 🥰
OMG you go to such trouble. What a beautiful home and such gorgeous decorations. It must take forever to put up all those. xx
Wow, such gorgeous decor! I love the ladder with the stockings! I may need some of these ideas. Our decor for Christmas is "woodland" with animals and pinecones, wood trees etc. I need to do a post on my decor – I love the wrreath over the bed too. Very special!
