This week has gone by so fast! And for some good news, the May weather is finally cooperating over here. It actually hit 70 degrees. Woot! That, combined with our progress, has us feeling pretty accomplished this week. This week we spent our time working on the porch ceiling.
But first, If you are stopping by for the first time, you can catch up with our weekly updates for the One Room Challenge here.
Here is what we started with. The ceiling was not only in need of a paint job but some of the wood was beginning to rot.
We spent a day making repairs before we started wrapping the porch in cedar. I am not going to lie the recent price increases in lumber (especially cedar) had us thinking twice about this detail. But I really wanted to tie the cedar elements together with what we had added to the deck last week. We originally were going to plank the ceiling itself but we had a lot of cedar shake leftover (and again pricey) so we decided to use the shakes on the ceiling also.
We are loving the look. And excited to see some progress, Speaking of progress you should see what everyone else is up to this week!

It looks really great with the cedar, you made a great choice to add it. It is shocking that prices have sky rocketed since the start of covid.
The cedar shingles look amazing!
Love that ceiling ….. WOW.
Cedar looks amazing, what a great look
Looks so beautiful!
I love it, especially the cedar shingles. It is fresh and beautiful
Wow those cedars shanks look amazing on the ceiling. What a great use of leftover materials and way to go saving money on not buying other materials for the ceiling.
What a great way to add texture and interest. It looks beautiful and refreshed.
I’ll be featuring you this week – thanks for sharing with us at the To Grandma’s house we go link party. Happy June!
I am fascinated by these traditional american houses. A couple of French friends have moved to the U.S 3 years ago, in Louisiana, and every time they post pictures of such small towns with their adorable houses I wish I could join them on a trip!
