Hello! I’m so excited to share our cozy Fall Porch at the Lake House with you today! Our Michigan summers are truly spectacular, but Fall is always my favorite season. I absolutely love the cooler nights and watching the trees across the lake show off their beautiful colors. Plus, after a busy vacation rental season (that’s our primary business!), the quieter fall days sitting on my porch here at the lake make my heart happy. I so appreciate having a covered porch, which to me feels like we have added square footage to our home—it’s truly an additional room! A room that I pay as much attention to the fall decor as I do my inside spaces… maybe even more! Grab your favorite beverage and let’s take a look.

I believe a covered porch is just an extension of your home’s square footage! With that in mind, the quickest way to change up the vibe for any season is through textiles. And fall textiles are soooo good!
I love incorporating rich fall colors and a few patterns in my pillows and throws—it adds the perfect amount of cozy vibes, and the varying textures really help to blend the indoors with our outdoor space. A bonus is that the pops of fall color help break up all the neutrals I am so partial to.
A favorite find this year was the oversized woven wall basket; I love the warmth and texture it added, and how beautifully it fills the space over the outdoor sofa. A plus since the ceilings out here are eighteen feet high in that corner.
I think every room needs some vintage character—outside spaces included! Out here, a repurposed vintage chicken coop now serves as a unique coffee table, and I love how the rustic element balances the more modern lines of my outdoor furniture.
To add even more history, my celosia plants are displayed in a vintage crate that I turned into a modern plant stand. I couldn’t resist a crate with my name on it!
And finally, just leaning a beautiful wooden printing tray along with an art print adds some lovely warmth to my whole fall display.
Since this is our extra room, I pay just as much attention to the lighting! The key is to use different types of light for a truly magical ambiance. I love the convenience of my solar floor lamp– and the small rechargeable table lamp acts as added task lighting (perfect for reading late into the evening). Then, I layer in both real and battery-operated candles, as well as mini string lights tucked into a few of the potted plants, providing the perfect warm glow in the evenings.
Even as temperatures cool, you can still have vibrant color! Fall is the time of year I refresh my porch plants (except for those hardy succulents)! Most of my summer favorites are limping along, so switching them out, I bring in more of a fall palette.
Some of my favorite outdoor plants for a fall porch include the texture of Red Fountain Grass, colorful Coleus, and the feathery heads of Celosia.
I love adding unexpected touches, such as a fall-colored ribbon to this planter.
Because it’s early Fall, you aren’t seeing any fall mums on my porch yet. I will add those along with some white pumpkins as October gets a little closer.
That’s it for my Fall Porch Tour at the Lake House. Here’s a picture that captures the gorgeous view once the leaves turn color later in September.
Thank you so much for stopping by and sitting with me for a bit! I truly love how our porch feels like a cozy extension of our home this time of year. Between the beautiful fall colors and the crisp air, it’s the perfect spot to relax after a busy season. Do you have a porch or patio you love to decorate for Fall? I’d love to hear about it!
Until next time,
-Libbie
