Hey! How is your summer going? My goal for this summer was to get as organized as possible so that I could be present and enjoy all that summer has to offer here in Michigan. With this week being the unofficial halfway mark for summer, I am going to give myself a solid B. Room for improvement for sure, but we have already enjoyed making memories with the grand littles and spending time with our grown kids at the lakehouse.
Part of my pre Summer prep was finishing the outdoor space at our newest Airbnb. I originally planned to finish it for the One Room Challenge but couldn’t quite get it together. So today I am sharing the finished deck just in time for a Mid Summer deck tour! Hey, better late than never right?!? And as a bonus, some of my blogging friends are sharing their outdoor spaces too. YAY! So if you are visiting from my friend Kristin’s blog- White Arrows Home, a warm midwest welcome to you! I live across the very big lake from Kristin and love following her Northwood adventures.
Onto the tour.
Here is what we started with. ;-
This bad boy is huge. I’m not sure anyone needs a deck this size, but it came with the house so we are working with it.
The idea was to provide a place to grill, a place for eight people to dine and then hang out.
I wanted the deck furniture to feel more modern than a typical cottage but to also continue with the design style I had done inside. You can see the inside house tour here.
I chose the modern rugs first (under table), (under fire pit) and just played off them. I love these rugs so much that I would use them indoors.
Next up were furniture selections. I was excited to find the black and teak furniture for conversation seating and the fire table was a last-minute splurge at the Wayfair Wayday sale. I love a good sale!
The baby blue cooler was added because of a lack of refrigerator space in the house. I have a Smeg Fridge inside and it’s ADORABLE but after a few guests, I realized we needed more space for ICE! The cooler helps and we haven’t had any complaints.
We repurchased an identical table for this deck as we put at our first Airbnb because it’s held up so well. It’s from Walmart and at a great price! This one came in a set with benches allowing seating for six, and we added the chairs on the ends. You can see the same table here after three summers.
We also added lots of yard (or deck) games- because outdoor games are a must! Besides Yahtzee, we added cornhole, connect four, and a wooden ladder game.
I added a few pots of succulents for touches of green and ease of keeping alive!
And, of course, the rocking chairs because it’s not summer without a place to read.
That it’s for my Mid Summer Deck tour, be sure to check out my friend Michelle from The Glitzy Pear. She is sharing her inexpensive porch makeover.
Until next time,
-Libbie
