One Room Challenge, here we go!

In the Design/DIY blog world there is a major party twice a year.  The One Room Challenge or ORC for short is a design challenge hosted by Linda from Calling it Home.   I have been a huge fan for years.  In a nutshell the challenge invites 20 featured bloggers and 100 + guest bloggers to pull together an entire room/space from start to finish in just 6 weeks!  The most exciting part is we get to follow along on the journey.  The good, the bad and the ugly is blogged about each week.   Now, anyone who knows me well understands that this is the holy grail for me.  DIY, Design, under pressure…YES, sign me up!  So this year I’ve decided to jump in.  I’m scared, excited and have way too many things planned than I (meaning of course me and the hubs) can possibly accomplish.  But here I am  inviting each of you to follow along on the ride.

The room I’ve chosen to makeover is the Laundry/Mudroom at our Lake house.  I chose it because after a year of weekends at the house it’s become a catch all space that we drop everything as we arrive and there it sits. Maybe it wouldn’t be so awful but it’s the first space visitors see when they come in.  This is our main entrance through the garage.  We could of course use the front door but we are casual people and we never use it.  So I want the space to be pretty (goes without saying) but also increase the functionality.  Here is the plan.  Subject to change of course, because that’s how I roll.  😉

It’s a really tiny space with 11 ft ceilings.  I’d like to add both color and texture.  Here is what it looks like today.  I just noticed the box of succulents on the washer.  I have plans for those.

Functionality is going to be a major priority.  In such a small space that is going to be a tall order.

Here is how I hope to schedule the time.  I am just a little worried as all the DIY will have to be done on the weekends as we have regular jobs and all.  The cabinets are laminate and I have my fingers crossed that my guy at my local Sherwin Williams store has not steered me wrong on how to paint them myself.

Week by week plan.

Okay, that is it for now.  Look for weekly updates each Thursday and I’d love to hear your tips, suggestions or feedback.  Also, be sure to check out the other bloggers participating in ORC I think you will discover some incredible home inspiration.

Until next time- xx
