“And all at once, summer collapsed into fall.”- Oscar Wilde. This is how Fall always seems to arrive for me. Out of the blue and catching me unprepared. Summers are so busy for us with our Short-Term rentals that I blink, and it’s Fall. That is why I like to keep any decorating I do this time of year as easy as possible. So today, I am sharing my tips for Simple Fall Decorating.
Let’s take a peek.
My fall-enclosed porch. We spend a great deal of time out here.
I live in Michigan, so I am all about Fall. It’s the time of year when Michigan shines. We spend our Saturdays in sweaters, watching college football (GO BLUE), and picking apples from the orchards just down the road. Our trees are magnificent, and living on a lake during this season seems like a dream. Fall, for me, is so much about the outdoors and the real show that is going on just outside our windows that I concentrate on simplicity inside.
For simple and quick Fall decor, I add touches of warm, neutral colors with florals, plants, and textiles (and the occasional pumpkin). Simple feels right.

Plants, plants, and more plants…and maybe a few feathers.
Below is an easy way to add a Fall vibe (and one of my favorites). I used wooden candlestick holders for height (similar here) and placed potted plants, pumpkins, and succulents all in front of a favorite piece of art.
Since I am a huge lover of plants, you will find lots of greenery mixed in my Fall decor. These mini pumpkins with succulents are some of my favorite Fall decor. They are quick, easy, and long-lasting; you can pop them into any spot. I posted a quick DIY here. I loved these so much that I tried them on regular-size pumpkins here.
Sometimes, something as simple as changing up a tea towel can add a bit of Fall charm.
Here are some of my current favorite tea towels for Fall.
Fresh fruit is another Fall favorite to add to my decor. We have an apple orchard down the road, so I always have a basket of apples on my table.
Fresh flowers are a regular at my house (thanks to Trader Joe’s), and it’s one of the first things I do to start transitioning to Fall. Sunflowers are a must-have!
A copper vase provides just the perfect amount of warmth, and orange tulips with seeded eucalyptus add a bit of Fall texture and color to my home.
And speaking of copper….I love to pull out copper bowls in the kitchen this time of year. I have several. Sometimes, they hold extra tea towels or store extra produce from the last of the farmer’s market haul. I filled a bowl with the patio succulents I brought in to protect it from the cold. The beautiful patina against the succulents makes a beautiful centerpiece.
Another simple and easy update I do each Fall is to switch out all of my pillows and throws to heavier textures and warmer colors—instant cozy.
I even switch out a few furniture pieces with extra texture to add a cozier feel for the change in seasons. This ottoman is a perfect example.

I love all the copper and the apples. I don’t think people use apples in decor like they should in the fall. It’s all pulled together so well! Great job!!
