And todayI have the perfect summer cocktail for you a Sour-Cherry Gin Sling!!
Sour Cherry Gin Slings may be the perfect summer cocktail and especially now that its cherry season here in Michigan (the state produces a lot of cherries so they are abundant!).
I am always looking for something just a little lighter this time of year and a bonus if I can use our farmer’s market cherries.
This drink is a lovely combination of tart and sweet with just the right amount of refreshing bubbles.
Let’s get started!
1 pound of stemmed cherries
3/4 sugar
1 cup of water
Zest from 1/2 Lime
Zest from 1/2 orange
2 cups of gin
2/3 cup of Cointreau
2/3 cup lime juice
2 1/4 cup cherry syrup
Angostura bitters to taste.
Ice
La Croix or your favorite sparkling water.
Clean and pit your cherries.
Zest lime and oranges.
In a large saucepan, combine the cherries with sugar, water and citrus zests and bring to a boil.
Cover and simmer over low heat for 40 minutes.
This is the perfect time to turn up some summertime tunes. 🙂
After mixture calls
Use a fine strainer, gently press the solids.
This yields about 2.5 cups of syrup.
Store in the fridge for up to 10 days if you want to make ahead!
In a pitcher combine the gin with the Cointreau, lime juice, sour-cherry syrup and bitters to taste and stir well.
Pour into ice-filled glasses and add your La Croix or sparkling water.
