Call me CRAZY but it’s that time of the year again. Spring you say?!?! Well, yes. but it’s also time for the One Room Challenge. This is a semi annual challenge that brings together the love of design with the stress of DIY. It’s done within a supportive community (in six short weeks) with weekly updates from each of the participants. I am very excited to be participating as a guest for my third challenge. You can read more about the ORC here.
This time around I have decided to refresh the kitchen at our lake house. When I started planning this space a few weeks ago it seemed like it would be quick enough to cover in the six allowed weeks. But here we are at the beginning and I already feel behind!
The kitchen at the lake house is a galley kitchen. Small but works well for us as empty nesters.. We are looking for more of a refresh/update in what I like to think of as phase one. Phase two (replacing that beast of a refrigerator and fingers crossed a gas stove (the house is in a remote area and we have propane gas) will come next year. For now my plan is:
-REPLACE COUNTERTOPS- Going with butcher block
-SINK & FAUCET
-PAINT or WALLPAPER BEHIND BOOKCASE
We are going to be doing all of this DIY and we only have weekends to work on it so wish us luck! Follow along each week to see how we are coming along. If you have any tips please leave it in the comments. We are going to need all the help/suggestions we can get. To be honest I’m a little nervous about our timeline.
Make sure to head over to see the featured designers here and my fellow guest participants here. The inspiration is Pinterest worthy!
Until next time,
You’ve already got some great bones in there, so it will be nice to see how you spruce it up!
The space already has some great bones so I can’t wait to see how you refresh it!
We are hosting a Wedding for my daughter later this summer so I’m hoping all turns out!
I agree with Christine, totally doable with great bones to start with! Looking forward to following along!
To say I’m nervous is an understatement! I am hoping this weekend is very productive. Getting us off to a nice start.
I love that you are going with butcher block counter tops those are so pretty, can’t wait to see them .
I love the warmth of wood and I think it’s exactly what the space needs. Bonus that they are affordable! Now to make the cuts! Wish us luck!
Lake house? How lovely! This will be fun to watch
Yes, it is a haven from a crazy busy life. I am looking forward to adding a bit of warmth without too much of a "cabin" feel. Wish me luck!

I just told the office that I may need a day or two off at the end! :). Fingers crossed it all gets done in time.
I am in the same boat as you! I’m doing a kitchen refresh as well and both my hubby and I work. We are also using butcher block, so I am excited to see your kitchen. Lets do this thing!!!!
Oh great! Are you installing the countertops yourself? I a little nervous! You can believe I will be following right along with you.
You’ve got this Libbie! Your bookcases in the breakfast nook are already awesome!
We are doing it all DIY so I am a bit nervous! Wish me luck! 🙂
Moodboard looks awesome. I really like that backsplash tile.
Thanks Kenyatta. I am wavering on the tile! Sigh. I still have one more week before I have to decide. :-
Fun! I love seeing kitchens for the One Room Challenge – this one looks like it’s going to be great 🙂
Thanks Casey! I love the kitchens and bathrooms. Seems like you get so much bang for the buck! 😉
Oh, Libby! This is such a cute space to start with, I can’t wait to see the updates! Replacing countertops in a weekend? You’re braver than I 😉
I am sooooo nervous! But I can’t tell my husband because he is the one making the cuts. Fingers crossed. 🙂
Oh my! Your kitchen is already so beautiful. The butcher block countertops are going to really elevate the space. The built-ins with the diamond is so unique!
Thanks Corinna! We love the built-ins too. I’m thinking wallpaper in the back? Not 100% sure yet. 🙂
Can’t wait to see what you do! It looks pretty good already. What a beautiful home!
I can’t wait to see how it turns out! I love what you have planned for your kitchen!
You’re brave but you can do this! Can’t wait to see the results. 🙂
Already such a beautiful space at your lake house, but I’m excited to see all the new elements come together – great use of texture and colour!
What a great space can’t wait to see the reveal. Our kitchen is small hopefully and maybe I’ll do my kitchen next year.
