Hi! Today, I’m sharing plans for a room refresh I’ve been dreaming about since we bought this house. It’s one of those projects that always gets pushed to the back burner because, honestly, nothing’s really wrong with the space—it just doesn’t quite work for me. You know what I mean? So, when the amazing folks at The One Room Challenge announced mini-projects for this spring’s challenge, I knew it was the perfect excuse for finally updating the mudroom/entryway space!
So, mostly, we’re talking about a facelift, but let’s be real, I have 30-year-old indoor/outdoor stinky carpet with some major mildew going on, and it’s gotta go! Seriously, who thought carpet in an entryway was a brilliant idea? Tile is coming to the rescue! Here’s the plan:
The stinky carpet just to show how gross it is….
I would really like to work on the wood floors in the space, too, but I think we will save that for next Fall when we have the upstairs bedroom floors refinished.
My vision for this back entrance—which is really our main entryway—is to make it feel like a little sneak peek of what’s to come inside. We’re lucky to have tons of natural light pouring in, so I’m thinking black doors and trim with bright white walls. For the tile, I want to pull colors from the rest of the house to create a cohesive flow. And that wallpapered wall? It’s getting a makeover, either with a fresh mural or some kind of cool wood treatment.
We have eight weeks to complete this mini-project, but I am pushing it to four as I have a second project I would also like to complete in this challenge! I am ordering pulling the trigger on orders tonight so wish me luck.
Here is the mood board as of today:
We are ripping the carpet up in the morning, and I will choose the final paint colors as soon as the tile samples arrive. I hope you follow along as I update the mudroom/entryway space here and on Instagram!
Until next time,
-Libbie
