I have always been a design geek. I can’t remember a time that I wasn’t trying to put my personal stamp on my living spaces, DIY’ing something I couldn’t find or couldn’t afford to buy, and last year where we renovated a distressed property into an Airbnb. A Life Unfolding is where I share design, decor, DIY’s, and all things home.
Create a DIY Easter arrangement with purple cabbage.
Hey friends! Happy almost Easter to you all! I’m just popping in today with a fun and easy way to create a DIY Easter arrangement with purple cabbage. I’m hosting a little get-together with a couple of my grandkids, and I really wanted to keep the holiday vibe simple, fun, and oh-so-springy. This diycenterpiece idea feels just right – using purple, pinks, and yellows and bursting with that springtime feel.
Putting Your Spring Arrangement Together: Easy Steps:
You can shop some of my favorite DIY floral design items at my Amazon Store here.
1. Prepare the Cabbage Vase
First things first, give yourcabbage a good wash and peel off any of those outer loose leaves that might be looking a little sad. Next up, we’re going to slice off the topof the cabbage. Grab a paring knife or even a scoop and get to work hollowing out the purple cabbage. You want to create a nice little well in the center to tuck your vase (or in my case, a trusty glass jar!).
2. Time for a little flower support!
Grab your tape (green florist tape is fancy, but good old scotch tape works just fine if that’s what you have on hand, like me!) and create a grid across the top of your glass jar. This little trick will help keep your fresh flowers standing tall and proud. TIP: This will also help guide you as you arrange your flowers.
3. Prepping your flowers is key!
Trim off any leaves that will end up below the water line in your cup of water. Then, using those sharp scissors, give the stems a nice angled cut—this helps them drink up the water better!
4. Now for the fun part – arranging! I like to start with my green filler, working it around the edge of my hollowed cabbage and towards the middle. Then, I let the seeded eucalyptus do its thing, letting some of it gracefully drape over the edge of my cabbage vase arrangement.
Next up, my main stars – the daisies!
I popped those in, followed by the pink flowers(aren’t these fresh tulips just gorgeous?!).
I tucked in the yellow mini carnations to fill in any gaps and add more color. TIP: Keep turning that cabbage vase as you go – you want it to look good from all angles! Don’t be afraid to add more greenery to fill in any holes. If you have interesting stems with leaves, use those too. I am using the tulip stems because I think the variegated leaves are so pretty.
For the last step, lightly rub the purple cabbage with olive oil to make it shine.
That’s it, I told you it was easy to create a DIY Easter arrangement with purple cabbage!
Caring for your Cabbage Arrangement:
To keep your beautiful centerpiece looking its best for as long as possible, make sure to change the water in your glass jar every couple of days with some fresh, cool water. While you’re at it, give those stems another little angled trim. Also, be sure to remove any leaves that sneak below the water line – no one wants a murky situation! Keep your cabbage arrangement away from direct sunlight and any ripening fruit.
Isn’t this cabbage arrangement a fabulous idea for your easter table settings? I think it’s such a creative way to bring in some natural elements and a perfect pop of color to your easter tablescape. Plus, using a purple cabbage as a beautiful flower vase? That’s definitely a conversation starter and such an inexpensive way to create a gorgeous centerpiece!
Happy Spring, everyone! I hope you have a wonderful Easter.
