Kitchen Renovation-Here we go! Week 1 of the Jeffery Court Renovation Challenge

Kitchen Renovation week 1

You guys!!!! I am so very excited to announce our next project will be for the Jeffery Court Renovation Challenge, and it’s going to be sooooo much fun!

So a little backstory…

If you follow me on IG (and if you don’t, I’d love to be friends, you can find me @alifeunfolding), you know how I love a renovation challenge (it is seriously the only way I ever get a project 100% finished).

You may also already know that we recently signed the papers on our second Airbnb property! WOOT!

It is serendipitous that the wonderful humans at Jeffery Court Challenge selected me to be one of twelve participants in their Fall renovation challenge season 6 just as we picked the keys because I like to just JUMP RIGHT IN!

What room have we decided to renovate, you may ask?!?!

The kitchen, of course, and six weeks is going to be so tight!

I don’t care.

I am excited to get started.

This is going to be soooooo good.

We choose the following tile for our renovation.

Where we are starting at.

The house is currently a big empty box which I don’t mind because we can add character into it as we go.

This home will be an Airbnb, so we need to make the house/kitchen function well for groups of up to 8 and be comfortable and beautiful.

If you’d like to see our current Airbnb, which we renovated last year, you can see it here.

Let’s take a peek at the kitchen pics of the day we picked up the keys.

Pretty she isn’t, but she will be.

Can you say hello to 1984???

Kitchen Renovation plans:

I am going for a modern cottage vibe in this house.

Here’s my current plan, which I must warn you may change due to any of the following: shipping delays, our DIY skill level, and/or on a simple whim of mine.

  • Remove some of the upper cabinets – paint remaining uppers white and the lower cabinets blue.
  • Pour a concrete countertop. Yep, we’ve never done that before.
  • Take the riser off the countertop and add 12 inches to the width so I can add counter stools for extra seating.
  • Tile the wall where the upper cabinets were removed and add open shelving.
  • Add a backsplash.
  • Remove the linoleum and tile the floor.
  • Replace the dishwasher and maybe the fridge???
  • Add New Lighting.
  • Paint wall and trim.
  • New Hardware

Sounds doable, right??!!?!? (insert crazy laughter).

I hope you will follow along!

Next week we start the demo, and the first project we tackle will be concrete countertops.

A big thank you to Jeffery Court HD, Frogtape, and Wagner for sponsoring this Challenge and allowing me the opportunity to participate with such a wonderful group of bloggers!

Until next week,

-Libbie
