Vintage suitcases being used as nightstand

Using Vintage suitcases in decor

Today, I am hanging out with a few of my blogging besties, showing ways to make something old new again.

My design style tends to lean a little more modern- I love a great black accent, and one of my favorite ways to soften a modern room is to add something vintage in an unexpected way.

Let’s see how we can use vintage suitcases in decor.

Vintage Suitcases as a nightstand

I have stacked three vintage suitcases to make a nightstand in our guest room.

With the three suitcases stacked, it’s a great height for a nightstand, and since it’s a guest room, we didn’t need to worry about storage space.

Another excellent use for vintage suitcases is as end tables.

I have a few black ones stacked on the side of my sofa that act as an end table in the living room.

They help balance out my camel-colored sofa and offer the perfect display area for books and photographs.

Ooh, and flowers.

I love giving these pieces new life.

A bonus is they are actually quite large, and the surface allows for lots of display space.

Some of my favorite places to find old suitcases:

  • Vintage Markets
  • Goodwill
  • Etsy
  • eBay- I found the black suitcase in the living room on eBay.

Care of Vintage Suitcases

When I find a vintage piece I love, they are not always ready for use.

I always take the following steps to ensure they are ready for display.

  • Clean outside with soap and water.
  • Inside, make sure there is no mold or mildew.
  • Add a touch of shine with leather cleaner.
  • Polish and clean any hardware.

These are a few ways I use vintage suitcases in decor.

Do you have other suggestions?

Those are my tips for making old suitcases new again!

I have a new project on my list that I will post about soon. I found a vintage salesman suitcase that I will add legs to, and I am so excited to see how it turns out.

Now, let’s see what my blogging beasties are making new again!

Until next time,

-Libbie
